A Journey Through Loneliness and Loss
In this performance, Ahmad Baba delves into the complex emotional states of loneliness and grief, exploring how they evolve from transient feelings into defining aspects of identity. Set against the backdrop of migration and exile, the performance confronts the reality of queer bodies that are displaced, marginalized, and denied the space to exist fully in the world.
Loneliness as Survival, Grief as Identity
As a migrant queer individual, Baba’s work reflects on the ways in which loneliness becomes a condition of survival. In a world that continually excludes and diminishes queer lives, this performance examines how grief emerges from the profound loss of home, identity, and belonging. Baba’s exploration raises essential questions about the intersection of loss and survival, asking: How do we move forward when the states of loneliness and grief are no longer just fleeting emotions, but have become the very essence of who we are?
A Performance of Absence and Longing
Baba’s performance creates a visceral space of absence, a place of longing and reflection on what it means to be displaced. With a deeply personal and introspective approach, Baba’s art brings into focus how grief and loneliness are not only emotional states but also survival mechanisms—how they are stitched into the very fabric of identity for those who navigate the margins. This is not just an exploration of emotion; it is a reckoning with the realities of exile and the ongoing struggle for recognition and belonging.
