“ The paralysis of Numbness مهما يحاولو يطفو الشمس “ is a multi-faceted performance exploring how trauma and numbness are inscribed in bodies and migrate across cities. The work investigates Beirut’s perpetual state of liminality—neither fully destroyed nor fully rebuilt—and how its architecture and histories of rupture shape the bodies that inhabit it. Upon arriving in Berlin, this embodied trauma adapts to a new urban context, interacting with the city’s own historical scars.

In a global climate of displacement, instability, and rising violence, the project reveals how bodies act as living archives of social and architectural histories. Through performance, visual media, sound, and digital documentation, it examines how survival, numbness, and resilience are inscribed in movement, posture, and presence, persisting across geographies and generations.

This project is situated at the intersection of urban trauma, migration, and embodied memory, exploring how historical and contemporary ruptures shape both bodies and cities. By engaging public interaction, improvisation, and workshops, the work generates a critical dialogue on the interplay of memory, architecture, and collective experience. Beirut’s cycles of destruction and reconstruction exemplify a sustained condition of liminality, while Berlin carries its own ruptures and collective scars. Tracing how trauma and numbness are internalized and transmitted, the project seeks to understand survival not as resolution, but as a continuous negotiation with instability in both personal and collective terms.
